History and Legends of The Cape May Diamonds
The Native American people, the Kechemeche were the first to discover the amazing stones that we now call Cape May Diamonds. These Native people believe that these stones have supernatural power. They used them to trade with other tribes and believed that they brought good fortune and success. European colonists were fascinated by these beautiful stones.
The Kechemeche people, a sub set of the Lenape Native Americans, lived in the southern portion of Cape May County.
